The Best Time to Visit Veuve Clicquot
This guide picks the month, the weekday and the hour for your veuve clicquot champagne tour. The house keeps a seasonal calendar, shuts for part of the winter and closes on some weekdays, and the vineyards look different in each season. Here is the 2026 year, month by month.
When is Veuve Clicquot open?
From 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on open days. In 2026 the house closed from 28 December 2025 and reopened on 7 April, Tuesday to Sunday. It opened every day from 29 June to 30 August, then Tuesday to Sunday again from 1 September to 1 November.
From 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 it opens Wednesday to Sunday. It closes on 1 May, 25 December and 1 January. The house has published nothing after 3 January 2027, so check its own page before you plan a winter visit.
What happens in winter?
The cellars close. In 2026 they were shut from 28 December 2025 to 7 April, and Café Clicquot, which follows the same calendar, closed with them. The house gives no reason and no date yet for the 2027 reopening.
Reims is cold and wet then. January averages a high of 6 °C, with frost on about 12 nights and rain on 12 days. The cellars are no colder than in summer, but the walk to them is.
A fare that names the house cannot take you into its cellars while they are shut. If Veuve Clicquot is the point of your trip, come between April and early January, and read the house's page for 2027 before you book.
Which weekdays are closed?
Mondays, for most of the season. From April to late June and from September to 1 November the house opens Tuesday to Sunday. From 4 November Tuesdays close too.
So a Monday works only from 29 June to 30 August, when the house opens every day. Plan a Monday in Reims around the cathedral and the city instead, and see the house on the Tuesday.
What is spring like?
The season opens. In 2026 the cellars reopened on 7 April, Tuesday to Sunday, and Café Clicquot with them. April is the driest month at the Mailly-CIVC station, with 46 mm of rain, and frost comes on only a night or two.
By May the vines are in leaf and the frost is gone, with average highs of 19 °C. The house closes on 1 May, so do not plan your cellar tour for that day.
What is summer like?
Busy, warm and open every day. July is the warmest month at the Mailly-CIVC station, with an average high of 25 °C, and the cellars below stay at 10 to 12 °C. You walk from summer heat to cellar cold in a few steps, so bring a layer.
Summer also brings the picnic. The house's rosé picnic at the Manoir de Verzy, its vineyard estate, ran Friday to Sunday from 5 June to 31 August 2026, plus 4 and 5 September, at EUR 88 an adult. The 2026 season is over; expect the same pattern in 2027.
When is the harvest, and the harvest luncheon?
The 2026 harvest opened in August. The Comité Champagne set the first picking at Montgueux on 8 August, and most Marne villages opened between 12 and 17 August. The date moves every year with the season, so a harvest visit needs a late booking and some luck.
The house also held a harvest luncheon at the Manoir de Verzy on 12 and 19 September 2026, at EUR 132 an adult. Both dates have passed. In late September 2025 one traveller on À La Française's shared day watched the picking, when the guide stopped to let the group see it.
What is autumn like?
Quieter, and still open. The house opens Tuesday to Sunday through September and October. After the picking the slopes turn gold, and September's average high of 20 °C is kind to vineyard stops.
October brings the rain back, with about 10 wet days at the station. Pack a waterproof for the vineyard stops and the walk from the station.
The pattern changes in early November. The Tuesday-to-Sunday season runs to 1 November; from 4 November the house opens Wednesday to Sunday, so the first days of the month need checking against its page before you book.
What about Christmas in Reims?
The house opens Wednesday to Sunday through December, and closes on 25 December. In 2025 the Reims Christmas market ran from 26 November to 28 December, a minute's walk from Reims Centre station. Its 2026 dates are not published yet.
December is the wettest month, with 86 mm of rain on average, and highs of 6 °C. The cellars are no colder than in July: the cold is on the walk to the door.
What is the best day of the week?
Tuesday to Saturday, outside the summer weeks. The house is open, the shared tours from Reims run, and you avoid the Monday closure. France Intense's grower day runs only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Sundays are open too, but harder from Paris by train. France Intense recommends the 7:58 am TGV to Champagne-Ardenne on Sundays, and warns of no Sunday-morning train in July and August.
What is the best time of day?
The morning. The house opens at 9:30 am, the shared tours from Reims meet at 9:20 am, and a morning slot leaves the afternoon for a grower or the city. The one-hour visits leave room for Café Clicquot, which opens at 11 am.
An afternoon slot works on your own, but book it before 3 pm: the house closes at 5:30 pm, and the tasting and the shop both take time.
If you arrive early, use the gap. Reims Cathedral opens every day from 8 am and costs nothing to enter, so an hour there before a 10:30 slot costs you no time at all. After the tasting, Café Clicquot serves until 5 pm, and the Citybus or a taxi takes you back into the centre for the evening train.
Which season suits which traveller?
- A first visit: June or September. The house is open, the vineyard stops are warm, and the summer heat has not set in or has passed.
- A family: the summer picnic at the Manoir de Verzy, with its own prices for children: EUR 55 from 10 to 17, EUR 32 under 10, and free under 3 in 2026.
- A Monday-only visit: 29 June to 30 August, the one stretch when the house opens every day.
- Anyone who hates rain: April, the driest month, from the day the house reopens.
- A Christmas trip: Wednesday to Sunday in December, never on 25 December, and check the house's page for anything after 3 January.
