Veuve Clicquot Tour Prices and What Each Fare Buys

This guide prices every way in, from the house's own EUR 36 ticket to a private day from Paris at $996 per person. It shows what each fare buys, what it leaves for you to pay, and the rules that change the sum before you make a Veuve Clicquot booking.

What does a Veuve Clicquot ticket cost?

The house sells its own cellar tours at its visit centre, per person: EUR 36 for an hour with the Brut Yellow Label, EUR 60 for an hour on blended rosé, EUR 80 for an hour and a half, EUR 160 for two hours on ageing, and EUR 260 for four hours with La Grande Dame. Every one includes a tasting. These are the house's own prices, in euros.

The longer three can be booked for your party alone through the house's private tours desk. Private events are priced separately, from EUR 210 per person at the visit centre.

What does a tour cost?

Every tour fare is per person, and the dollar figures below are the operators' own on the day we read them. They move with the exchange rate and the season.

The shared days from Reims are the lowest fares that name the house: $375 to $382, with lunch and a family grower. France Intense's grower day, at $375, carries the Best value badge for that reason.

How do the shared days from Reims compare?

Closely on price, less so on the day. À La Française's day costs $382 per person, with nine tastings, lunch at a family winery and Hautvillers. France Intense's grower day costs $375, with four glasses at the house, three at a family estate, lunch and the vineyards of Verzenay and Mailly; it runs three days a week and needs 72 hours' notice to cancel. Its local-domain day costs $382, with lunch in Reims and a family grower at Rilly-la-Montagne.

All three meet at the Reims station forecourt at 9:20 am, so your TGV costs the same on each.

What does the TGV day from Paris cost?

The LinkParis TGV day costs $645 per person, with your return rail tickets from Paris-Est in the fare, first or second class by option. A guide meets you in Reims for the house, lunch, the Avenue de Champagne and Hautvillers, with ten tastings in all. Your transfer to the station is not included, and the fare cannot be refunded.

What do the half days from Paris cost?

The shortest private days from Paris take you to this house alone, with the cathedral and time in Reims, and have you home by late afternoon. Clewel's cellars-only day is $521 per person, its Hautvillers half day $534, Galaxytour's $561 and the 7:30 am half day $563.

They are called half days, but none is a half day on the clock: they run 7 to 9 hours door to door, about four of them in the car. What you save against a full day is the second house, not the drive.

What does a two-house day cost?

Adding a second big house adds a couple of hundred dollars. Clewel's days with Ruinart or Taittinger cost $793 per person, its Moët & Chandon day $724 and the Grand Vintage day $802. From Reims, France Intense's private day with Moët & Chandon costs $712, and Tour Up in Europe's small-group day from Paris $648.

The Champagne days that may include the house sit either side of those. My Winedays' shared day costs $376, with more than eight tastings and lunch; its private VIP day, with a Michelin-starred lunch, costs $1,216, the highest fare we list.

Why does a private day cost more than a shared one?

You pay for the vehicle and the guide or driver alone. On a shared day eight people split them; on a private day only your party does. From Reims, that takes you from $375 shared to $520 and up for a private day.

From Paris you also pay for the road. A car day runs four hours of driving on top of the visits, and the chauffeur is paid for all of it. That is why the private Paris days sit at $521 to $996 per person, and why the TGV plus a Reims day costs less.

Which fares include the house ticket?

Every fare that names the house includes its ticket and its tasting. That covers the shared and private days from Reims, the TGV day, and every Clewel, Galaxytour and Le Tour de Vigne day from Paris.

The exception is Best of France Tours' private day. It may visit Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart or Moët & Chandon, and it leaves every house's entrance and tasting fees out of its fare. Ask the operator for the rates before you book. Its driver-guide does not go into the cellars either.

Which fares include lunch?

The shared days from Reims, À La Française's private day and the TGV day include lunch. So do most of the Champagne days that may include the house, one of them at a Michelin-starred table when one is free.

The Clewel and Galaxytour days from Paris leave lunch to you, in Reims or Épernay. Le Tour de Vigne books the table and you pay about 20 to 40 euros for the meal.

What is the two-person minimum?

Several private days need two people to book, and the fare shown is per person. So a couple pays twice the figure on the card. On Clewel's cellars-only day from Paris that is $1,042 for two; on Uncork's day from Reims, $1,040.

A solo traveller should look at the shared days, or at a private day with no minimum. Uncork, Le Tour de Vigne and Clewel's two half days set no two-person minimum.

How do the cancellation windows differ?

• 24 hours: most fares refund in full if you cancel a day ahead.
• Three days: France Intense's grower day and Clewel's 7:30 am half day need 72 hours' notice.
• Non-refundable: the TGV day, À La Française's private day from Reims and Best of France Tours' day cannot be refunded once booked.

The house publishes no refund rule for its own tickets, so ask before you book direct. Each card states its own policy under the price.

Is the dearest tasting worth it?

It depends on what you want to taste. The EUR 36 hour gives you the cellars and the house's non-vintage. The EUR 160 visit is built around vintages, and the EUR 260 visit around La Grande Dame, the prestige cuvée first made in 1972.

On the Clewel days you choose the level at booking. On the 7:30 am half day the top level pours a Yellow Label magnum and La Grande Dame 2015, and one traveller advised booking the top one. If you only go once, the step up to vintages is the one to make.

What is left to pay on the day?

• Tips: no fare includes them, and they are optional.
• Lunch: on the car days from Paris.
• Extra drinks and bottles: anything beyond the tasting.
• Getting to the start: your TGV on the Reims days, and your transfer to Gare de l'Est on the TGV day.
