About Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot has made champagne in Reims since 1772, and since 1909 it has aged its wine in 482 crayères, chalk pits on the Saint-Nicaise hill that UNESCO listed in 2015. Madame Clicquot, widowed in 1805, built the first riddling table here in 1816 and made the first blended rosé two years later. Join us underground, at a steady 10 to 12 °C among the Yellow Label bottles, and out in the vineyards the tours visit. We bring together the days that reach both, starting with the three above.

The Clicquot House

Philippe Clicquot founded the house in 1772. His son's widow, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, took over in 1805, made the first known vintage champagne in 1810 and shipped the 1811 ‘Comet’ vintage to Saint Petersburg in 1814. The yellow label was registered in 1877, and La Grande Dame arrived for the 200th anniversary in 1972.

The Cellars

The house's own cellar tours run from EUR 36 for an hour on the Brut Yellow Label to EUR 260 for four hours on La Grande Dame. Every one goes down into the chalk, where non-vintage wine rests at least 30 months and vintages at least five years, away from light and vibration.

The Vineyards

Champagne covers about 34,000 ha in 319 crus. The tours drive through the Montagne de Reims villages of Verzenay, Mailly, Rilly-la-Montagne and Ludes, and up to Hautvillers. The house's own estate is the Manoir de Verzy, home of its summer picnic and harvest luncheon.

Each runs to a set slot between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm, so book yours on the house's website before you travel.

Plan your visit

The TGV from Paris reaches Reims in 45 minutes. The visit centre is a 30-minute walk from the city centre, 15 minutes by car from Reims Centre station and 10 from the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station, and a bus stop named ‘Veuve Clicquot’ serves it. The shared tours meet at the tourist office on the Reims station forecourt at 9:20 am.

How to get there

In 2026 the house opens Tuesday to Sunday until 1 November, then Wednesday to Sunday from 4 November to 3 January 2027, closed on 25 December and 1 January. It opened every day from 29 June to 30 August this year, and it has published no date after 3 January 2027, so check its calendar before you fix yours.

At Météo-France's Mailly-CIVC station in the Montagne de Reims, July is the warmest month, with average highs of 24.8°C, April the driest at 45.8 mm and December the wettest at 86.4 mm. The cellars stay at 10 to 12°C all year, so bring a warm layer even in July.

Can you visit Veuve Clicquot without a tour?

Yes. The house sells its own cellar tours at the visit centre, 1 rue Albert Thomas in Reims, from EUR 36 for an hour with the Brut Yellow Label. Book on the house's website and take the TGV to Reims. A tour earns its fare with a second producer, lunch, the vineyards and a driver.

How much is a Veuve Clicquot cellar tour?

The house publishes five, per person: EUR 36 for an hour with the Brut Yellow Label, EUR 60 for an hour on blended rosé, EUR 80 for an hour and a half, EUR 160 for two hours on ageing, and EUR 260 for four hours with La Grande Dame. The three longer ones can be booked for your party alone.

How much is a Veuve Clicquot tour from Paris?

Private days that name the house run $521 to $996 per person, the house ticket included. The shared days are $645 by TGV with lunch, or $648 by minibus. Champagne days that only may include the house start at $376.

What are the house's opening hours?

9:30 am to 5:30 pm on open days. It closes on 1 May, 25 December and 1 January, and on the weekdays its seasonal calendar leaves out, so check the day before you plan around it.

How do you get there from Paris?

Take the TGV from Paris Gare de l'Est to Reims, 45 minutes by Reims Tourisme's figure. From the centre, take a taxi, the Citybus to the stop named Veuve Clicquot, or walk for about 30 minutes. Or book a day with pickup at your Paris hotel.

Is lunch included on the tours?

On the shared days from Reims station, on À La Française's private day from Reims and on the TGV day from Paris. Most private days from Paris leave lunch to you, and Le Tour de Vigne books a table you pay for yourself.

Does a guide come into the cellars with you?

The house's own guide leads every cellar tour. On the chauffeur-driven private days from Paris your driver waits outside and is not a guide. The shared days and the other private days put a guide with you all day.

How long does a tour take?

The house's own cellar tours last one to four hours. Days from Reims run 8 to 9 hours. Days from Paris run 7 to 12.5 hours door to door, about four of them on the road.

Is there a minimum age?

The house publishes none. Each operator sets its own: tastings are for 18 and over on most fares, and Clewel lets minors join the cellar tour. À La Française takes no child under 4 on its shared day and none under 10 on its private day.

Is the house wheelchair accessible?

The house says its visit, boutique and café are accessible to people with reduced mobility if you say so when you book. On request at reception, wheelchairs and strollers can go down into the cellars. Some tours mark their vehicle accessible too, and each operator can confirm it before you book.

Can you cancel a tour?

Most refund in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. A few need three days' notice and a few are non-refundable, so each card states its own policy.

Can you eat at the visit centre?

Yes. Café Clicquot, open since March 2023, serves from 11 am to 5 pm without reservations. It follows the cellars' seasonal calendar.

Café Clicquot

The first permanent Café Clicquot anywhere opened at the visit centre in March 2023. It serves from 11 am to 5 pm, takes no reservations and follows the cellars' calendar.

Climb the cathedral towers

The towers of Reims Cathedral are open by guided visit only, at EUR 9 a person, while the cathedral itself is free every day from 8 am.

The Manoir de Verzy
